The Well Women and Cervical Smear clinic is run by a practice nurse on Tuesdays. The practice nurses are trained to do cervical smears. The current recommendation is that smears should be done 3 yearly between the ages of 25 and 64. We will, however, offer the same service to women outside this age range as requested.
Monitoring is by appointment with a doctor in any routine surgery - preferably with Dr O'Brien or Dr Proudfoot who have an interest in HRT
Mammography (breast xray) is offered between the ages of 50 and 70 years and is dealt with by the national screening programme. A mobile screening unit comes to the area every three years. If you have a family history of breast or ovarian cancer please ensure we are made aware.
We offer a coil and contraceptive implant service as well as advice on contraception.
